THE Al Ahly surprised by winning Monterrey (Mexico) 1-0, this Saturday 5, at the Al Nahyan stadium, in Abu Dhabi, in the United Arab Emirates, for the quarter-finals of the Club World Cup. Even without being able to count on six holders and four other reserves, who serve the national team of Egypt in the African Cup of Nations, the Egyptian team managed to qualify for the semi-finals, thanks to the goal marked by Mohammad Hany, 8 minutes into the second half. With the result, the Reds will be looking to reach the final of the FIFA competition for the first time in their history. For this, the African team will have to demystify the Palm treesnext Tuesday, the 8th, at 1:30 p.m. (Brasilia time).

Extremely weak, Al Ahly saw Monterrey pressing at the start of the game, using a lot of the right side, attacking midfielder Maximilano Meza being activated. There, the Rayados created a few chances, the main one being wasted by center-forward Funes Mori. The Egyptian team, however, was not cornered and bothered a lot with some counter attacks. The result was only moved in the second leg, however, when Maâloul came down in a counterattack from the left and crossed on the deflection of archer Andrada. On the rebound, Hany put it in the net, taking zero off the scoreboard. Despite having greater possession of the ball, Monterrey could not penetrate the defensive system of the Egyptian team, which still had other chances to develop. Thus, Al Ahly faces Palmeiras again – in the dispute for third place in the 2020 World Cup, disputed last year, the Africans were right on penalties, after a 0-0, which persisted in the additional time.
