Thai zookeepers have called an albino lion “psychic” after he correctly predicted the outcome of two Euro matches.

The big cat, named Boy, backed the Three Lions to victory over Croatia this weekend before successfully predicting the Netherlands victory over Ukraine.

The boy makes his “predictions” by selecting pieces of meat that are attached to a zip line that passes over his enclosure.

Each piece of meat bears a national flag, with Boy being deemed to have “chosen” a team based on which piece of meat he eats first.

The stunt echoes Paul the Octopus, who has carved out a reputation for himself as an animal oracle by predicting German football results in Euros 2008 and the 2010 World Cup.

To make his predictions, Paul was presented with two identical boxes with food inside – with a team assigned to each box.

As is the case with Boy, Paul would have “picked” the team box in which he ate the food first.

At Euro 2008, Octopus correctly ‘predicted’ four of the national team’s six results – without predicting a 2-1 group stage loss to Croatia and a 1-0 loss to Spain in the final .

Then, at the 2010 World Cup, he correctly predicted the results of Germany’s seven games, including their third place in the playoffs.

He also correctly picked Spain as the overall winner of the tournament, a series of feats that have brought him international fame.

Originally born in Weymouth, Paul died two years later at the Sea Life Center in Oberhausen, Germany, just months after the tournament ended.

Speaking about Boy, Thai zoo manager Narongwit Chodchoi said, “The Euro 2020 lion prediction show is part of the zoo’s recreational activity, aimed at enriching animal behaviors.

“The activity was not meant to encourage people to gamble. It was for entertainment purposes only.
