Sometimes this thing called life requires a weekend just so we can recharge our batteries and relax. Finding somewhere to go can seem daunting, but luckily for us Londoners, we’re surrounded by plenty of pretty towns and villages that make great getaways to relax.
Dunstable in Bedfordshire is one such place. And best of all, it’s super easy to get to. You take a train from Blackfriars to Luton, followed by a bus from Luton to The Quadrant. You then hop on a last bus and you’re there! Or alternatively, if you live in central London, you can drive for 50 minutes on the M1.
The city is also home to a massive attraction – the third best zoo in the UK! . Whipsnade is famous for having the largest collection of wild animals of any zoo in England. Due to the size of the zoo, visitors can get around by bus or train. You can also travel by car, like on a safari. African lions are amazing.
Underrated town 2 hours from London, perfect for a weekend that has the UK’s ‘best bacon sandwich’
Most of the animals at Whipsnade Zoo are considered endangered species. At Whipsnade you can see their herd of elephants, a waddle of penguins and a tower of giraffes. There are also cheetahs and lemurs to see, and don’t miss the fascinating butterfly house either. You can spot majestic Chinese water deer, Muntjac deer, wallabies and Mara.
After watching the animals, chances are you’ve worked up an appetite. In this case, you should go to a very popular local restaurant, Vantage Indian Restaurant. It’s so good that one satisfied customer took to Tripadvisor to write, “We visit this restaurant quite often and the food is just amazing. The staff are always happy to chat and help you with your choices. If you fancy something different, let the staff know and they will be happy to recommend different dishes for you to try. Our favorite restaurant by far, which is why we keep going back. Thank you to all the staff who continually make our visits so enjoyable.”
